Microfinish Meets the Highest Standards from A to Z
It’s all too easy to get lost in the numerous acronyms and buzz words of finishing industry jargon.
Microfinish is ISO 9001:2015 certified. We are proud members NASF and NTMA. Our professional finishers meet REACH regulations and can help with LEED credits. These acronyms stand for different things, yet all of them reflect that Microfinish exceeds industry standards and provides quality and consistent results for our customers. One of these important guidelines is a program known as IATF 16949.
IATF 16949 is the international standard for automotive quality management systems. The standard was jointly developed by members of the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) Members of the IATF include vehicle manufacturers Ford, GM, Chrysler, BMW, VW, Daimler, Renault, PSA Peugeot Citroen and Fiat, in addition to several national automotive trade organizations across North America and Europe. The
International Organization for Standardization (ISO) approved and published these standards with the latest iteration in 2016.
IATF 16949 emphasizes the development of a process oriented quality management system that demands continuous improvement, prevention of defects and reduction of waste and variation in the supply chain. The overall reaching goal is meeting the requirements of customers effectively and efficiently. The standard applies to any organization involved in the manufacturing components, assembling and supplying parts to the automotive industry.
IATF 16949 certification is usually a requirement for doing business within the automotive sector internationally. It is considered a necessary robust management tool to help service providers grow and succeed with in the industry. This certification is specific to the automotive sector and is fully aligned with the structure and requirements of ISO 9001, an overall international quality management standard. IATF 16949 compliance is implemented in conjunction with ISO 9001.
IATF 16949 includes these five basic core tools to meet the stringent needs of automotive customers worldwide.
- Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), a structured process that assures quality and performance through meticulous planning
- Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), a methodology aimed to allow organizations to anticipate failure during the design stage and identify possible points of failure during the design and manufacturing process
- Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA), a mathematical method of determining variation that exists within a measurement process
- Statistical Process Control (SPC), a system to measure and control quality by monitoring the manufacturing process
- Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), a checklist of 18 elements required to approve production level parts
